Courtyard Garden

Our Courtyard Garden was opened in 2013 and was designed and built with help from Campion students.

The garden incorporates an outdoor classroom, a pond and some of the school's bench art. Pupils are regularly seen working in the space during lesson times - whether they are learning how to measure accurately in a maths lesson, or drawing still life in art, the space is available for all lessons to use.

Pupils also use the garden during break times and lunches as an area that is nice to relax ready for the day ahead.

In October 2013 Campion School was awarded Heart of England in Bloom’s 2013 prestigious silver-gilt award for their gardens around the school, including the vegetable garden, the nature reserve and the newly improved courtyard garden. There are four possible award standards from bronze, silver, silver-gilt to gold. Silver –gilt is given for an entrant that has not only met the criteria and objectives with a high standard throughout but who has also in one or more areas been exceptionally thorough. This award is considered to be a potential Gold award winner of the future.

Robin Russell, Heart of England in Bloom judge, came to present the award and was particularly impressed by the shelter in the courtyard garden, which was designed by students, the water harvesting scheme on the sports roof and the development of the nature reserve.
