Social Sciences
Welcome to the Social Sciences department.
Social Science consists of the disciplined and systematic study of society and its institutions, and of how and why people behave as they do, both as individuals and in groups within society. Here at Campion we offer a variety of subjects which encourage our students to develop as independent learners, acquiring skills in critical thinking as well as the ability to use in-depth analysis and evaluation.
We believe Social Science is a powerful academic foundation that provides students with the opportunity to develop skills valued beyond schooling. Our students are motivated to develop their research and presentation skills, expand their written communication, and increase their interpersonal, organisational and problem solving skills. Most importantly, our students are encouraged to apply what they have learned to practical and real life situations which will be of benefit for any future career.
We offer:
A Level Psychology
A Level Psychology is the scientific study of people: how they think, how they act, react and interact. It is concerned with all aspects of behaviour and the thoughts, feelings and motivations behind it. The A Level course has been designed to provide a broad introduction to the scope and nature of psychology as a science. The emphasis is on applying knowledge and understanding rather than just acquiring knowledge, thereby developing our students’ transferable skills of analysis, evaluation and critical thinking.
A Level Sociology
A Level Sociology explores people and society. It examines our social institutions – our families, the state and social relationships like gender and ethnicity – to help make sense of how we both see and interpret our rapidly changing world. The A Level course will provide students with a diverse learning experience, allowing them to develop an exciting range of theories that question how society is organised. This, in turn, will help students to develop opinions and new ideas regarding societal issues.
BTEC Health and Social Care
BTEC Health and Social Care provides a unique opportunity to study a vocational course which provides students with the skills and knowledge essential for a career working with people within the care sector. Students learn how to provide the best possible care to service users of all ages, and with widely differing needs. In addition, the course provides opportunities for students to develop employability skills ranging from problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills, preparing them for the world of work.
