Geography KS5

A Level Geography Curriculum Overview

We follow the Edexcel A Level specification for our Geography program, where pupils explore both human and physical geography in an integrated manner throughout their time in sixth form.

In Year 12, students delve into key topics such as Globalisation, Diverse Places, Tectonic Hazards, and Coastal Landscapes and Change. The curriculum continues in Year 13 with an exploration of Superpowers, Migration, Identity and Sovereignty, as well as the Carbon Cycle and Water Cycle.

To enhance their practical skills and meet the fieldwork requirements of the course, students participate in a residential field trip alongside A Level Environmental Science students. This experience allows them to apply their learning in real-world contexts.

In addition to fieldwork, pupils undertake a 3000–4000-word independent investigation as part of their coursework. Teachers are dedicated to guiding students in selecting relevant topics and ensuring they can gather suitable data for analysis. Previous investigations have covered a range of engaging subjects, including Coastal Management, Crime Levels in Leamington, the Impact of COVID-19 on the Transport System, and Diversity in Leamington.
