Asperger's Syndrome

Some pupils on the ASD spectrum have high levels of academic attainment and are usually, but not exclusively, good at logic and reasoning. This makes them particularly interested in computing, maths and sciences.

Whilst these children can function well in classes they can still find the social aspect of communication challenging. Many children with Asperger’s Syndrome understand how their condition affects social interaction, but still find it difficult.

These children are highly vulnerable because they start to see that they may be different to their peers and this can affect their mental wellbeing.

Here is some of the ways that we try to support:

  • We do try and help children with Asperger’s Syndrome to build friendship groups.
  • We do have a counsellor and an inter-denominational chaplain in school for pupils to discuss their worries in life.
  • We work with the adolescent health services (CAMHS) to provide professional support for pupils who may be at greater risk.

Children with Asperger’s Syndrome grow up to use the strengths of their condition to make great impacts on the world.
